Zelensky and Trump Set for Key Peace Talks in Florida This Sunday

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is set to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump this Sunday in Florida to discuss ongoing efforts to resolve the conflict with Russia, as reported by American and Ukrainian media outlets on Friday, referencing sources familiar with the situation.

Earlier, Zelensky announced on X that his meeting with Trump was forthcoming, indicating that “many decisions can be made before the New Year,” though he did not provide specifics on the time or venue.

According to sources from Axios and The Kyiv Post, the leaders are anticipated to convene at Mar-a-Lago, Trump’s private club in Palm Beach, Florida, “if all goes according to plan.”

U.S. officials have not yet confirmed the scheduled meeting.

On Thursday, Zelensky indicated that he had productive discussions with White House special envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, noting that diplomats are “working around the clock” to develop a peace proposal that is “practical, effective, and trustworthy.”

The most recent negotiations between U.S. and Ukrainian officials yielded a 20-point framework for ending the war, which has been forwarded to Moscow for input.

This week, Zelensky provided details of the proposal to the media, mentioning that it includes a freeze on the current front lines and removes the stipulation for Ukraine to legally abandon its NATO membership aspirations.

He admitted that some aspects of the plan were less than ideal for Ukraine but stated that diplomats had successfully eliminated demands for an immediate Ukrainian exit from the Donetsk region or official acknowledgment of Russian dominance over the seized areas.

While Zelensky has shown an openness to compromise in pursuit of a peace agreement, Russian President Vladimir Putin has maintained several of his strict demands, including complete control over the Donbas region, where hostilities between Ukrainian and Russian forces continue.

On Friday, the Kremlin announced that Putin’s economic envoy Kirill Dmitriev had updated the Russian leader on the outcomes of recent discussions with U.S. officials following his trip to Florida last weekend.

“At Putin’s direction, discussions between U.S. and Russian officials have taken place. We have agreed to maintain the dialogue,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated to reporters.

When asked for Moscow’s current view on the negotiations, Peskov refrained from commenting, explaining that discussing it might negatively impact the talks.
