Wine 10.4 Released: Enhancements and Fixes in Open-Source Windows API for Linux

On March 21, 2025, a new version of the open-source implementation of the Windows Win32 API for Linux, known as [Wine 10.4](https://gitlab.winehq.org/wine/wine/-/releases/wine-10.4), was released. The launch of Wine 10.0 took place in January of this year, as reported [here](https://habr.com/ru/news/875506/).

In the release of Wine 10.4, the [project team](https://gitlab.winehq.org/wine/wine/-/raw/wine-10.4/AUTHORS), comprising 1,963 contributors, addressed 28 bug reports and implemented 241 fixes for issues discovered since the previous version, Wine 10.3. A significant portion of this work was carried out by 44 contributors.

The Wine project has [verified](https://appdb.winehq.org/) full compatibility with over 5,000 Windows applications, and more than 4,000 applications can operate reliably with additional configurations and external DLLs.

Key [updates](https://gitlab.winehq.org/wine/wine/-/releases/wine-10.3) and [enhancements](https://www.winehq.org/news/2025032101) in Wine 10.4 include:

— Improved support for the PDB (Program Database) format in the DbgHelp library;
— Enhanced capabilities in WineD3D for accelerating video decoding using the Vulkan API;
— Added accessibility features in the SysLink window for users with disabilities;
— Continued development of the Bluetooth driver;
— Resolved bug reports related to applications such as Adobe Illustrator CS6, Chessmaster 9000, Steam, iTunes 12.9.4, ShaderMap 4.x, IE 8, Roon 2.0.23, Enterprise Architect, Q-Dir, and Firefox 136.0.1;
— Closed bug reports concerning games including Strong Bad’s Episode 1 – Homestar Ruiner, Battle.net client, Need for Speed: Shift, Command & Conquer 3: Kane’s Wrath, Europa Universalis 4: Golden Century, Myst, Chessbase 17, and Zenless Zone Zero.
