WhatsApp to Revamp Meta AI Experience with Intuitive Voice Interface on Android

WhatsApp on Android may soon introduce a revamped Meta AI interface. According to a recent leak, the messaging app is modifying how users engage with the AI chatbot. The updated interface is rumored to include an automatic voice mode, along with suggested prompts to assist users in getting started. These features are currently being developed and are not accessible to beta testers. Importantly, Meta’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently mentioned that a major update for Meta AI is scheduled for 2025.

WhatsApp Appears to Be Developing a New Meta AI Design

As reported by WhatsApp feature analyst WABetaInfo, the platform is working on improving the Meta AI experience for its users. The chatbot’s new interface was observed in the latest WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.25.5.22. However, since it’s still in development, beta testers cannot currently access it.

According to screenshots shared by the feature tracker, the Meta AI icon found at the bottom-right corner of the chat screen in WhatsApp can now be long-pressed to reveal the new Meta AI interface and activate the voice mode.

The new Meta AI interface differs from the current chat window, taking up a significant portion of the screen with the chatbot’s logo and the word «listening» displayed below it. Users will be able to interact with the AI or pose a question. Additionally, Android will show a green microphone icon in the status bar to indicate that the interface is utilizing the device’s microphone.

The feature tracker indicates that users can easily switch to text mode by tapping the microphone button or entering text in the input field. Meta AI is said to listen to users only while they remain in this interface, and once they exit it, the session ends. The new design also introduces prompt suggestions for users to draw inspiration from.

This updated interface is expected to be available to users in a future update, although the exact timeline remains uncertain. Notably, WhatsApp has yet to make an official announcement regarding this redesign of Meta AI.
