Vodafone Idea Launches 5G Services in Chandigarh and Patna, Expanding to Major Cities Next Month

On Monday, Vodafone Idea (Vi) announced the expansion of its 5G services to two additional cities in India. Initially available only in the Mumbai region, where many users are reportedly experiencing high-speed internet with selected prepaid and postpaid options, the telecom provider has now rolled out its 5G network in Chandigarh and Patna in collaboration with Samsung. The company is utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) for the optimization of its network. Vi indicated plans to extend its 5G service to more major urban areas next month.

5G Expansion by Vodafone Idea (Vi)

According to the telecom provider, Vi users in Chandigarh and Patna can begin enjoying its high-speed internet services as of Monday (April 28) as part of the first phase of the 5G rollout. They have teamed up with Samsung to incorporate vRan technology, enhancing network flexibility and efficiency, alongside an energy-saving framework.

Additionally, Vi has launched an AI-based Self-Organizing Network (SON) system to improve the performance of its 5G network.

Since the launch of its 5G services in India in March, there has been a significant uptake. According to Vi, more than 70 percent of eligible users are taking advantage of Vi 5G, which now accounts for 20 percent of the overall network traffic. Furthermore, they have activated 5G services in 11 major cricket stadiums throughout the nation during the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season.

As part of its expansion strategy, the telecom operator intends to introduce 5G services in Bengaluru and Delhi next month. Vi mentions that this expansion aligns with the rising adoption of 5G-capable devices and the demand for its services in India.

Prepaid customers can enjoy Vi’s 5G offerings starting from ₹299 per month. This plan provides 1GB of data daily for a 28-day validity period. For postpaid users, Vi’s Max 451 plan, priced at ₹451, includes 50GB of data. Importantly, all plans also offer unlimited 5G data wherever the service is available. However, the company has indicated that this is part of an introductory promotion and may be temporary.
