Vivo V40 Pro: A Stylish All-Rounder with Impressive Upgrades and Unique Design Features

Vivo has made a comeback with a fresh lineup in the V series, just four months following the introduction of its V30 series. The latest models are named the Vivo V40 and the V40 Pro, positioned within the mid-range to premium smartphone brackets. We currently have the Vivo V40 Pro on hand, which boasts high-end specifications and a striking premium aesthetic. The starting price for the 8GB RAM + 256GB storage version is Rs. 49,999, while the 12GB RAM + 512GB model is priced at Rs. 55,999. Traditionally, the V series has been characterized by its sleek design and style, but Vivo adopted a varied strategy with the V30 series, placing more emphasis on enhanced camera capabilities. With the V40, the brand appears to be striving for a balanced offering that prioritizes performance alongside battery longevity. Now, let’s delve into the new features.

The Vivo V40 Pro showcases a slim, curved design with an official IP68 rating for water and dust resistance

While mid-year upgrades typically don’t bring major changes, Vivo has opted for a reimagined design. Continuing the trend of recent devices, this phone maintains curved edges with a flattened top and bottom. The phone’s durability is enhanced, now featuring an official IP68 rating compared to the previous V30 Pro’s IP54 rating.

The curved design integrates a conventional 3D curved edge display. The device sports a 6.78-inch full-HD+ 120Hz curved edge AMOLED screen, safeguarded by Schott’s Xensation Alpha glass. The back panel, also curved, is crafted from glass, and our review unit in Ganges Blue boasts a distinctive iridescent wave-like design, reminiscent yet different from the V30 Pro’s Andaman Blue finish. Additionally, the phone is available in a Titanium Grey color option.

The uniquely shaped camera module may appear unconventional but features a familiar camera arrangement

What grabs attention is the unusual keyhole-shaped camera assembly. The slim profile of the phone contrasts with the pronounced camera module, which comprises a circular segment housing the 50-megapixel ultra-wide and primary cameras, paired with a capsule-shaped segment that includes a 50-megapixel (2X optical) telephoto camera and an aura light LED ring. The Aura ring has been downsized compared to the version on the V30 Pro. The front-facing camera is, like its predecessor, also a 50-megapixel model equipped with autofocus capabilities. In summary, the camera configuration remains largely unchanged.

The Ganges Blue finish of the Vivo V40 Pro is truly distinctive

This device operates on Vivo’s Funtouch 14 OS, which is built on Android 14 and incorporates several AI-driven image editing functions. Under the hood, the Vivo V40 Pro is powered by a 4nm MediaTek Dimensity 9200+ SoC, representing a significant enhancement over the Dimensity 8200 SoC found in the V30 Pro.

The battery capacity has also seen an upgrade. The Vivo V40 Pro is equipped with a 5,500mAh battery that utilizes the same 80W charger as its predecessor. However, Vivo has not introduced wireless charging capabilities with this model.

The Vivo V40 Pro runs on Funtouch OS 14 and includes a variety of AI-powered features

With notable advancements primarily in performance and battery efficiency, we anticipate that Vivo’s V40 Pro will make a significant impression against competing premium devices from Samsung and Google this year. These competitors also feature AI enhancements, an area in which Vivo seems to have focused on its ultra-premium offerings (Vivo X Fold 3 Pro).
