Unveiling Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic — A New Chapter for the Old Republic Saga

At the recently held Game Awards 2025, game director of the original Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and creator of the Mass Effect trilogy, Casey Hudson, announced Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic—a new narrative-driven action RPG set in the Old Republic universe, developed in collaboration with Arcanaut Studios and LucasFilm Games. Shortly after the presentation, Hudson participated in a brief interview on the official Star Wars website, where he shared initial information about his upcoming project.

During the discussion with Hudson, it was revealed that:

Arcanaut Studios was founded in early 2025, shortly after Hudson faced setbacks with his former team, Humanoid Origin. It’s worth noting that the Humanoid team was working on “a multiplatform AAA game set in a sci-fi world with a focus on storytelling and character development.” The project was canceled following the loss of investors, which led to the closure of the studio at the end of 2024. In addition to Hudson, Arcanaut also includes other alumni from BioWare.

Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic is being developed on the Unreal Engine 5 for PC and unspecified consoles.
