Unleashing the Ultimate Clean: A Deep Dive into the Dyson V11 Absolute Pro Vacuum Cleaner’s Power and Performance

While the majority of tech enthusiasts gravitate towards standard consumer gadgets like smartphones, audio devices, wearables, and computers, I have a rather unconventional fascination with vacuum cleaners. It all began with an interest in robotic cleaners, and after successfully integrating artificial intelligence for the vital chore of maintaining clean floors, I’ve explored ways to further enhance that capability. Ultimately, there’s a limit to what a robot can achieve before a human needs to step in and exercise some traditional judgment.

If you’re prepared to roll up your sleeves, the most powerful tool at your disposal is a high-quality vacuum cleaner. For those familiar with this category and its operations, it’s well-known that Dyson is often regarded as the ‘Apple’ of the vacuum cleaner industry. Although it comes at a premium price, there’s an allure about a Dyson vacuum cleaner that particularly appeals to adults of a certain age.

The Dyson model under review here is the V11 Absolute Pro, the most robust and feature-rich vacuum cleaner available in the company’s lineup in India. Priced at Rs. 52,900, the Dyson V11 Absolute Pro offers a cordless experience and is equipped with numerous accessories and attachments. It promises comprehensive cleaning for your entire household, and beyond. Is this technologically sophisticated yet pricey vacuum cleaner truly worth the cost? Let’s find out in this review.

Though cord-free and generally user-friendly, the Dyson V11 Absolute Pro has a considerable weight to it

Design and Usability of the Dyson V11 Absolute Pro

As the priciest vacuum cleaner within the company’s offerings in India, the Dyson V11 Absolute Pro also stands out as the largest and most potent option available in the market. The specifications are quite remarkable: the device delivers 185 Air Watts of suction, powered by its Hyperdymium motor spinning at a staggering 1,25,000rpm, activating 14 ‘Cyclones’ that effectively gather dirt. While these figures might seem exaggerated, they essentially indicate that the Dyson V11 Absolute Pro ranks among the most powerful cordless vacuum cleaners available today.

The Dyson V11 Absolute Pro is a striking device, resembling a large, futuristic gun, predominantly constructed of plastic and featuring a substantial transparent dustbin. A trigger regulates the power, and consequently, the suction, making this appliance relatively straightforward to operate. It lacks a traditional power switch; it’s always ready for action, assuming the battery is connected and sufficiently charged. Simply pull the trigger to initiate suction, and release to halt it.

On the back of the Dyson V11 Absolute Pro is a small round display screen. A button located beneath it allows you to cycle through suction power modes: Eco, Medium, and Boost. I typically operated the vacuum on Medium mode, but you can opt for the alternatives to extend battery life at the expense of reduced suction, or unleash the motor’s full capacity while significantly decreasing battery longevity.

While the V11 Absolute Pro is in operation, the screen shows an estimation of how much time the vacuum will function at its current battery state, which decreases as you use it. This estimate also varies depending on the attachments used, as some have components that consume power from the vacuum itself.

The suction motor captures dust and dirt particles, including larger debris like food crumbs and bits of paper, which are then deposited into the sealed dustbin. This transparent container allows you to monitor the dirt accumulation at any moment, with an indicator line signaling when it’s time to empty it.

The clear dustbin lets you see when it’s time to empty the Dyson V11 Absolute Pro

Emptying the dustbin is a simple task; just hold the Dyson V11 Absolute Pro with the suction inlet pointing downwards, and press the red handle at the base. This unlatches the bin lid and pushes the entire bin downwards to release most of its contents, so it’s essential to do this directly over a disposal container to prevent dirt from falling onto the area you’ve just cleaned. To prepare the Dyson V11 Absolute Pro for its next use, simply close the bin lid and slide it back into place until it clicks. Be cautious not to activate the trigger while the bin is open.

The filter is located at the rear of the Dyson V11 Absolute Pro, purifying the air drawn in by filtering out tiny dirt and dust particles before expelling it through small vents. The filter can be removed and periodically rinsed under running water, and Dyson recommends replacing it every six months if the vacuum is used frequently.

Attachments of the Dyson V11 Absolute Pro

A significant benefit of the Dyson V11 Absolute Pro is the variety of attachments and accessories included, featuring multiple vacuum cleaner heads catered to different surfaces or tasks. There’s also a detachable metal pipe, referred to as the ‘Wand’ by Dyson, designed for easily cleaning floors or reaching elevated areas with the device. The Wand measures approximately 75cm in length and has the same head fitting as the vacuum itself. Additionally, a compact wall-mountable hook is included to secure the charger, allowing you to dock the V11 Absolute Pro effortlessly when not in use.

It’s important to note that Dyson accessories aren’t interchangeable within the company’s product lineup, meaning attachments designed for the V11 Absolute Pro won’t fit other Dyson models like the newly released Omni-Glide, and vice versa. This also applies to the Wand, as it must fit into the primary suction port of the V11 Absolute Pro and accommodate the different vacuum heads.

The included accessories, along with the Wand pipe tool, fit securely onto the front of the Dyson V11 Absolute Pro

The attachments provided include the Torque Drive, Soft Roller Cleaner, Crevice Tool, Combination Tool with brush, Mini Motorized Tool, Mini Soft Dusting Brush, Mattress Tool, Top-Up Adapter, and Extension Hose. These various vacuum heads serve specific purposes, and I’ve explored their functionality in greater detail in the next segment of the review.

The base of the Dyson V11 Absolute Pro houses a sizable removable battery with a proprietary charging port. The charging adapter included plugs into this socket, and it takes about 4.5 hours to fully charge the vacuum from zero. Weighing approximately 3kg, it can feel somewhat cumbersome over extended use. I typically managed to operate it for around 10-15 minutes before needing a break; fortunately, this was often enough to thoroughly clean as much as I required in a single session, whether for a moderate or large room.

Performance and Battery Life of the Dyson V11 Absolute Pro

Dyson offers a broad range of cordless vacuum cleaners, and the V11 Absolute Pro stands out at the pinnacle of its offerings in India. The cordless design, handheld operation style, and adequate battery life for domestic use make it a versatile device. I found it to be fast, efficient, and convenient. Additionally, it operates with much less noise compared to traditional canister vacuums.

Thanks to its variety of fittings and potent suction, the Dyson V11 Absolute Pro is exceptionally capable of cleaning virtually any household surface, including hardwood and carpeted floors, sofas, beds, tables, shelves, and more. I even utilized it to clean my vehicle, and for all the tasks I put it through, I was satisfied with the results.

My preferred attachment was the Soft Roller Cleaner, as it proved highly effective on my hard tiled floors; however, the fluffy rollers on this head required regular cleaning, as dust and small particles tended to get trapped in the fabric. Small wheels at the base of the Soft Roller and a flexible pipe allowed for a decent range of motion, enabling me to swiftly adjust the cleaning angle as needed.

A small round screen on the back indicates how much longer the V11 Absolute Pro can operate based on its charge level when in use

I frequently also employed the Crevice Tool and Torque Drive attachment (which features a motorized roller and brush for rapid floor sweeping and dirt dislodging) for targeted tasks, such as reaching between the gaps in my car’s seats and cleaning up after an accident involving a broken glass bottle, respectively.

The Soft Dusting Brush was useful for cleaning the tops of furniture, while the Mattress Tool provided a thorough clean for the mattresses around my home. The Top-Up Adapter helped angle the vacuum head for challenging spots, including atop cabinets and ceiling fans. Initially, the variety of vacuum heads and accessories was overwhelming, but I quickly figured out which ones I needed most and what worked best for specific cleaning tasks. Switching between them to suit my current cleaning requirements wasn’t difficult.

I noticed that the rate of battery depletion varied depending on the fitting I used, making it challenging to determine which ones consumed the most power.

No vacuum cleaner is entirely silent; however, the Dyson V11 Absolute Pro operates significantly quieter compared to most other consumer-grade devices I’ve encountered, due to the motor’s design. The sound produced by the suction motor and the rush of air expelled is not unpleasant and remains at levels that do not reach the threshold of uncomfortably loud.

Battery life on the Dyson V11 Absolute Pro is adequate, considering its cordless nature and the capabilities of the Hyperdymium motor. It is rated to run for up to 60 minutes in Eco mode, and I typically achieved around 40 minutes of usage when mostly in Medium mode with occasional shifts to Boost mode. I usually had the Wand and Soft Roller or Crevice Tool attached. Continuous use of the Boost mode will deplete the battery in roughly 10 minutes, making the device considerably louder, so it’s advisable to utilize it only when absolutely necessary; Medium mode suffices for regular cleaning.

Conclusion

The Dyson V11 Absolute Pro is an absolute joy to operate. It’s powerful, efficient, and features accessories that enable it to adapt to various dry cleaning scenarios in the home. While it may be a bit hefty, this cordless vacuum offers satisfactory battery life, making it quite valuable for household cleaning – provided your budget allows for it.

Retailing at Rs. 52,900, the Dyson V11 Absolute Pro is the priciest cordless vacuum cleaner that the brand offers in India, and it can be challenging to understand investing this much in a vacuum cleaner. Nevertheless, the comprehensive features, user-friendliness, and exceptional cleaning capabilities render it an appealing choice for anyone seeking an effective home cleaning solution.
