Ukrainian Drones Target Strategic Oil Installations in Southern Russia

Ukrainian drones launched attacks on two oil facilities in the Rostov and Samara regions of southern Russia during the night, according to officials from both countries on Tuesday.

Governor of the Rostov region, Yury Slyusar, reported that drones struck two locations—a pipeline facility and an industrial complex located near the village of Sohranovka—resulting in fires after the attacks late Monday.

Sohranovka is known for housing a gas pumping station that used to send Russian gas through Ukraine.

Slyusar noted that there were no reported injuries, and the fires were «quickly» brought under control.

In a separate incident, the Syzran oil refinery in the Samara region was also targeted, as stated by Andriy Kovalenko, a representative of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council’s Countering Disinformation Center.

Kovalenko mentioned that Ukrainian drones had previously hit the Syzran refinery on February 19, which led to a temporary shutdown. This refinery has the capacity to process 8.9 million metric tons annually.

He emphasized that refineries of this size are crucial for supplying fuel to the Russian military and play a vital role in its logistics, sharing this information on Telegram.

Vyacheslav Fedorishchev, Governor of the Samara region, confirmed that Ukrainian drones targeted «an industrial facility» in Syzran but also reported no casualties.

The Russian Defense Ministry stated that it successfully intercepted 18 drones overnight across six regions, including Rostov and Samara.

Ukraine has been increasingly directing its efforts toward Russian oil depots and refineries, seeking to disrupt fuel supplies to the Russian armed forces. Kyiv views these attacks as retaliation for Russian strikes on Ukrainian cities and the energy infrastructure.
