Ukraine War Veterans Set to Join Moscows Commemorative Parade for WWII Victory Day

Decorated veterans from Russia’s conflict with Ukraine will participate in the upcoming Victory Day parade in Moscow next month, according to state media reports from the Kremlin on Monday.

This year’s Victory Day festivities, which commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Soviet Union’s victory over Nazi Germany in World War II, are set to occur throughout Russia on May 9.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov informed the state-operated news outlet RIA Novosti that the «heroes» of what Moscow refers to as its «special military operation» will definitely take part in the military procession in Moscow.

Veterans of the Ukraine conflict were first included among the 9,000 troops at last year’s Victory Day celebration in the capital.

Peskov did not specify how many veterans of the war are expected to join the 80th anniversary parade in Moscow.

The veterans who participated in last year’s parade included seven recipients of the Hero of Russia medal and 24 individuals awarded the Order of Courage.
