UK Discovers Underwater Spy Devices Linked to Russian Intelligence Operations

The Sunday Times reported that the British military has detected Russian sensors in the waters surrounding the UK, which they suspect were intended to monitor its nuclear submarines.

According to the newspaper, the Royal Navy discovered several devices positioned on the ocean floor, while others came ashore.

Military and intelligence officials are convinced these sensors were installed to collect information on Britain’s four submarines equipped with nuclear missiles.

A senior British military official commented to the paper, “There is no doubt that a conflict is ongoing in the Atlantic. This cat-and-mouse game has persisted since the Cold War ended and is intensifying again.”

The three-month investigation by the newspaper revealed the presence of unmanned Russian vehicles reportedly located near underwater communication cables.

Furthermore, the report indicated that the government had “credible intelligence” suggesting that superyachts owned by Russian oligarchs might have been employed for underwater surveillance activities.
