Ubuntu Touch OTA-8 Released: New Features and Device Support Announced

Developers from UBports, the team responsible for Ubuntu Touch following Canonical’s decision to halt further development of the project, have unveiled the eighth release of the mobile platform: Ubuntu Touch OTA-8 Focal. This version is based on the package infrastructure of Ubuntu 20.04. The prior update, Ubuntu Touch OTA-7, was launched in November 2024.

In the coming days, the Ubuntu Touch OTA-8 Focal update will be made available for a range of devices including Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1, F(x)tec Pro1 X, Fairphone 3/3+/4, Google Pixel 3a/3a XL, JingPad A1, Oneplus 5/5T/6/6T, OnePlus Nord N10 5G/N100, Sony Xperia X, Vollaphone X/22/X23, and Xiaomi Poco X3 NFC / X3.

The OTA-8 release introduces support for VoLTE (Voice over LTE) on the Volla Phone X23 and Volla Phone 22, which utilize the Halium 12 port. It also features support for WPA3-secured Wi-Fi networks and the option to remove images from contact entries. Additionally, this update includes general bug fixes and security enhancements sourced from both the Ubuntu branch and UBports’ own solutions.
