Ubisofts Assassin’s Creed Franchise Head Marc-Alexis Côté Departs After Two Decades

Journalists from IGN have reported the departure of a long-time veteran of Ubisoft. After more than 20 years with the company, vice president and executive producer of the Assassin’s Creed series, Marc-Alexis Côté, has left.

This comes just two weeks after the launch of Vantage Studios, a new division of Ubisoft aimed at developing the Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six franchises. It has been clarified that Côté decided to leave Ubisoft voluntarily, turning down a position within the management team at Vantage Studios.

Employees received the news of Côté‘s departure in an email this morning. Co-leader of Vantage Christophe Derennes stated that the team is «disappointed and saddened by Côté‘s decision,» noting that he had «his own expectations and priorities related to the establishment and growth of Vantage Studios

A representative from Ubisoft confirmed the news.

Côté began his career at Ubisoft in 2005 as a junior programmer, quickly being assigned to work on the engine for Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands. He then became the lead level designer for Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, and due to his leadership skills, he was promoted to game director for Assassin’s Creed III.

Côté rapidly ascended the corporate ladder, eventually becoming the creative director at Ubisoft Québec and then an executive producer for the later installments of the Assassin’s Creed series. Since 2022, he had been responsible for overseeing the overall strategy for the franchise, including the service Animus Hub (previously known as Assassin’s Creed Infinity). It remains unclear what Côté plans to pursue next.
