Tragic Lightning Strike Claims Three Lives at Riverside Resort in Tula Region

Authorities reported that three individuals lost their lives and four others sustained injuries due to a lightning strike at a riverside resort in Russia’s Tula region, which is approximately 120 kilometers (75 miles) south of Moscow. This was announced on Monday.

According to the state-run TASS news agency, which cited health officials in the region, a man and a woman from Moscow, along with a local 13-year-old boy, succumbed to their injuries before emergency services could reach the Shakhtyor resort.

The Telegram channel Baza, which has ties to Russian law enforcement, shared a photo purportedly showing a man’s body on the riverbank adjacent to the resort. The victims have been identified as a 55-year-old man, a 50-year-old woman, and a teenage boy aged 13.

Two women required hospitalization, with one in critical condition, while a man and a teenage boy received medical care on-site.

Regional prosecutors announced that they have initiated an investigation into potential safety violations.

«In their inquiry, prosecutors will assess the beach area for necessary safety measures and review documentation concerning its operations,» stated a spokesperson.

This tragic event occurred amid severe rainstorms that affected central Russia following a heat wave over the preceding weekend.
