Topuria Clarifies His Future Plans After Securing Lightweight No Move to Welterweight in Sight

The former UFC lightweight champion, the Spanish-Georgian fighter **[Ilia Topuria](https://example.com/tags/33021-iliya-topuriya/)**, announced that he does not plan to move up to welterweight after claiming the title in lightweight.

«I don’t aim to compete for the title in lightweight first and then switch to welterweight. We will do what is beneficial for both the UFC and myself,» Topuria stated during a press conference.

At 28 years old, Topuria has been competing in the UFC since 2020. He secured the championship title in February 2024 at UFC 298, where he knocked out Australian fighter Alexander Volkanovski in the second round. In his most recent match at UFC 308, held in Abu Dhabi (UAE), Topuria successfully defended his title by defeating American Max Holloway with a knockout in the third round.
