Tesla Removes Range Extender Option for Cybertruck from Online Configurator

Tesla has removed the Range Extender battery option for the Cybertruck from its online configurator. This feature was initially announced in 2023.

At that time, Tesla also unveiled the production model of the Cybertruck, with a three-motor version promising a range of 800 km and a price of $70,000. However, the company is now offering this model for $100,000, with a reduced range of 510 km.

In an effort to align the actual range closer to the advertised specifications, Tesla introduced the Range Extender—a separate battery unit occupying a third of the vehicle’s cargo space. This additional battery, priced at $16,000, was expected to enhance the Cybertruck’s range to 710 km and the Cyberbeast’s to 755 km.

Originally, Tesla aimed to launch the Range Extender in early 2025, but later reports indicated a postponement to mid-year. Around the same time, the company also reduced the expected range of the option by approximately 40 km. Last summer, Tesla clarified that the installation and removal of the Range Extender could only be performed at authorized service centers.

Until recently, Tesla was accepting orders for the range extender with a non-refundable deposit of $2,000. Now, this option has vanished from the configurator, leaving it unclear whether the company intends to proceed with this product at all. It seems the manufacturer may have simply stopped taking orders for the Range Extender.
