Tesla Issues Safety Recall for 46,000 Cybertrucks Amidst Declining Sales and Market Challenges

Tesla has initiated a recall of over 46,000 Cybertrucks due to a possible safety concern. A report to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) indicates that the vehicle’s cant rail (a decorative outer trim piece) may become detached, posing a risk of injury or accidents.

This recall affects all 46,096 Cybertrucks produced from November 13, 2023, to February 27, 2025. Since the vehicle was launched in late 2023, this encompasses nearly the entire manufacturing output. The NHTSA report mentions that vehicle owners can visit a Tesla service center to get a complimentary cant rail replacement.

This recall adds to Tesla’s recent troubles. Last month, its sales in the US reportedly declined by two percent year-on-year, despite a 16 percent growth in the nation’s electric vehicle market. The situation is even bleaker internationally: Tesla’s sales in China fell by 49 percent (in contrast to an 85 percent increase in EV sales there), while in Germany, there was a dramatic 76 percent decrease (compared to a 31 percent EV market growth).

As a result, Tesla’s stock has plummeted by over 40 percent since January. Elon Musk’s activities with DOGE are resulting in escalating repercussions not just for the US government but also for his electric vehicle company.
