Slay the Spire Sees a Surge in Steam Player Count Nearly Seven Years Post-Release

The card-based roguelike game Slay the Spire officially launched from early access back in January 2019. Despite its age, the game remains incredibly popular, recently achieving a personal attendance record on Steam.

According to SteamDB, on December 24, «The Spire» attracted 54,253 users, marking the highest number of players for this roguelike since its release on Valve‘s platform. The surge in popularity is likely due to a 90% discount, allowing players to expand their game library on Gabe Newell‘s store for just 99 rubles.

In Slay the Spire, players select a hero and venture into a tower filled with monsters. The journey is straightforward—players navigate a simplistic map to choose their destination, whether it’s a merchant’s shop, a campsite, or a battlefield. During battles, various action cards are employed, each featuring different abilities. The objective is to build a powerful deck and defeat all the bosses.

In 2019, our reviewer Kyrill Voloshin gave the studio Mega Crit an impressive rating of “Amazing.” The reviewer was captivated by the game’s outward simplicity and the deeper complexity that lies beneath.
