Samsung Unveils Groundbreaking Foldable Devices and Cutting-Edge OLED Technology at MWC 2025

Samsung Display presented a range of cutting-edge OLED displays and foldable technologies at the current Mobile World Congress (MWC 2025) in Barcelona, including its OCF smartphone displays that reportedly achieve a maximum brightness of 5,000nits. The company also revealed various concept products, such as a ‘Flexible Briefcase’, a Flex Gaming console, and its edge-to-edge OLED Tile displays. Additionally, Samsung launched a 27-inch QD-OLED monitor featuring a 500Hz refresh rate, along with laptops sporting 15.6-inch OLED screens with a 240Hz refresh rate.

OCF Displays From Samsung: Higher Peak Brightness Without Extra Power Usage

During MWC 2025, Samsung exhibited its on-cell film (OCF) OLED panels, which are said to provide «1.5 times the brightness» of traditional OLED displays while maintaining low power consumption. These OCF panels can achieve peak brightness levels of up to 5,000nits, and the company showcased these alongside standard OLED screens commonly found in smartphones.

Samsung states that the OCF panels were created as part of its LEAD initiative (low power, eco-friendly, enhanced brightness, designed to be thin and lightweight). The company also asserts that the OCF displays are slimmer than conventional OLED panels and are capable of performing well in bright environments.

At MWC 2025, Samsung showcased its Seamless Colour Studio to illustrate how an LCD monitor fails to match the color precision of an OLED display when positioned next to a smartphone (which also has an OLED screen) in front of both monitors.

Innovations in QD-LED and Foldable OLED Displays

Among the fresh display technologies launched at MWC 2025 was Samsung’s 27-inch QD-LED monitor with a refresh rate of 500Hz. The company also exhibited laptops featuring OLED displays and a 240Hz refresh rate, as well as ten ‘OLED Tiles’ with a 0.6mm bezel that can be connected to create a larger screen.

Additionally, a unique Flexible Briefcase with a sizable 18.1-inch foldable display was introduced, which can transform into a portable bag format. The Flex Gaming console — another concept similar to the briefcase — comes with a 7.2-inch foldable OLED screen and accommodates popular games from the South Korean publisher Krafton.

As with many concept designs seen at tech expos like CES and MWC, it’s uncertain whether (or when) Samsung intends to bring some of these concepts into commercial production. Some of the company’s past foldable designs have made it to market, and it is possible that we may eventually see some of the innovative technologies showcased by the company at MWC 2025 come to fruition.
