Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra Elevates Filmmaking with New Log Video Recording Feature in One UI 7 Beta

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is rumored to gain a new camera functionality aimed at enhancing video recording for professional applications. According to reports, this smartphone will gain the ability to capture videos in log format. Initially introduced with the Galaxy S25 series, this feature is now said to be making its way to last year’s model through the fourth beta iteration of the One UI 7 update, which was launched on Wednesday. Nevertheless, this feature is reportedly absent in both the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ versions.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra Introduces Log Video Recording

A report from SamMobile indicates that the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra will support recording in log format. This new capability is included in the fourth beta update of the One UI 7 operating system. Since the update is still in beta, only testers will have the opportunity to explore this functionality. Furthermore, this feature is reportedly not accessible to the other members of the Galaxy S24 lineup, although the reasons for this remain unclear.

Importantly, log videos, or log footage, are recordings made in a logarithmic color profile. These videos tend to be flat and desaturated, but they maintain a high dynamic range that helps in retaining more detail in both highlights and shadows. Log footage is predominantly used in professional video production due to the added flexibility it provides for color grading during the post-production phase. Typically, films and commercials utilize log format.

To enable log video recording on the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, users must turn on the feature within the camera app settings. They should navigate to the Advanced video section and activate the Log toggle. This will activate log mode across both standard and Pro video settings.

Once this is done, returning to the camera viewfinder will display a LOG button that can be activated to record videos in log format.
