Russias Economic Envoy Denounces Efforts to Undermine U.S. Dialogue Amid Ongoing Tensions

Russia’s leading economic negotiator criticized the «colossal efforts» to hinder discussions with the United States during his recent visit for talks with American officials following the sanctions imposed by Washington on Russian oil companies.

This visit arrives as President Donald Trump expresses growing irritation towards Russian President Vladimir Putin, particularly regarding his unwillingness to agree to a ceasefire in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine that has persisted for nearly four years.

Earlier this week, Trump canceled a meeting planned with Putin in Budapest, declaring he did not want to engage in a «fruitless» discussion.

However, Kirill Dmitriev, Putin’s economic representative who arrived in the U.S. on Friday, emphasized that Moscow is dedicated to fostering constructive dialogue and articulating Russia’s stance clearly.

«We’re witnessing colossal efforts to disrupt any dialogue between Russia and the U.S. and to propagate disinformation,» Dmitriev mentioned in a video shared on Telegram.

He held discussions with officials from the Trump administration on Friday and Saturday, according to a Russian source familiar with the negotiations. Additional talks were anticipated for Sunday.

The Kremlin’s envoy met with Republican Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna from Florida, who was arranging a «meeting between U.S. Congress members and the Russian Duma to promote parliamentary dialogue,» he stated on X Sunday.

In the video message on Telegram, Dmitriev—a former Goldman Sachs banker and Stanford alumnus—indicated that such a meeting would take place «in the near future.»

Russia has consistently dismissed appeals for a ceasefire in Ukraine. The latest overnight strike on Kyiv resulted in three fatalities and numerous injuries, as reported by the mayor of the Ukrainian capital on Sunday.
