Russia to Ban Automatic Subscription Renewals Without User Consent Starting March 1, 2026

Starting from March 1, 2026, online services will be prohibited from automatically charging users for digital subscriptions without their explicit consent. This was reported by Anton Nemkin, a member of the State Duma’s committee on information policy, to RIA Novosti.

The official emphasized that this new regulation aims to protect citizens from accidental charges, particularly for services they no longer use. Additionally, the proposed legislation is expected to foster transparency and build trust between buyers and sellers in the subscription market.

Nemkin pointed out that as the number of subscriptions increases, users must have control over their financial tools in the digital space. In his view, services still have time to adjust their business processes to comply with the new legislation.
