Revolutionizing Telecom: Jio, AMD, Cisco, and Nokia Launch Groundbreaking Open AI Platform at MWC 2025

Jio Platforms Limited (JPL) has entered into a collaboration with AMD, Cisco, and Nokia, announcing their partnership on Monday during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025 in Barcelona. This alliance has introduced a new project known as the Open Telecom AI Platform. According to their joint communiqué, the objective of this initiative is to collaboratively develop and market real-world artificial intelligence (AI) solutions tailored for the telecommunications industry. The resulting solutions will be jointly provided to telecom operators to facilitate innovation through these cutting-edge technologies.

Introduction of Open Telecom AI Platform

In a recent press release, the partner companies elaborated on the Open Telecom AI Platform. Their announcement emphasized that the combined knowledge of these firms in areas such as Radio Access Network (RAN), routing, AI data centers, and security will allow them to establish a central intelligence layer for telecom and digital services.

To summarize, the Open Telecom AI Platform aims to create AI and machine learning (ML) solutions applicable across various processes within the telecom sector. These innovations will be commercialized and made available to industry stakeholders to enhance automation in current processes and to address existing gaps with AI-driven solutions. The release also indicated that AI and automation will be woven into every level of network operations.

Although the initiative will utilize AI and related technologies, it will not be tied to any specific large language model (LLM) and will instead employ open application programming interfaces (APIs) to enhance functionalities, according to the press release. This open approach and the choice to avoid dependence on a singular AI model are expected to reduce development and deployment expenses.

The technologies that these companies intend to create include AI agents, domain-specific LLMs, and small language models (SLMs), along with non-generative AI and ML methodologies. Additionally, telecom operators will gain access to comprehensive intelligence for managing their networks.

Jio will be the initial client of the Open Telecom AI Platform, as the collaborative partners work together to create and commercialize “a replicable reference architecture and deployable solution for the wider global service provider market.” The communiqué also pointed out that the long-term aspirations include the formulation of AI-driven applications for businesses and consumers beyond the telecom sector.
