Release of Wine 10.8: Exciting New Features and Bug Fixes Unveiled

On May 16, 2025, a new experimental version of the open-source Windows Win32 API implementation for Linux, macOS, and BSD operating systems, known as Wine 10.8, was released. The launch of Wine 10.0 took place in January of this year.

Upon the release of Wine 10.8, the project’s team, comprising 1,971 members, addressed 18 bug reports and made 231 changes to rectify the identified issues since the previous release of Wine 10.7. A significant portion of this work was accomplished by 35 contributors.

Wine’s project page confirms that over 5,000 Windows applications operate fully within the platform, while more than 4,000 applications run reliably with additional configurations and external DLLs.

The key updates and enhancements in Wine 10.8 include:

— Continued development of a new backend for the PDB (Program Database) format within the DbgHelp library;
— Improved performance through the migration of user parameters into shared memory;
— Enhanced support for TIFF image formats;
— Resolved bug reports related to applications such as Adobe Lightroom Classic 10.4, Vegas Pro 14, cmd, foobar2000, and Caret;
— Fixed bug reports concerning games including Defiance, Final Fantasy XI Online, and Country Siblings.
