Release Date Announced for The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum – December 17, 2027!

The company Warner Bros. has officially revealed the release date for the upcoming film The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, which is set to premiere on December 17, 2027.

This film marks the first full-length project in the Lord of the Rings universe since the Hobbit trilogy. It was initially announced in May of last year, with production originally slated for 2026, but the timeline has since been delayed by a year.

As suggested by the film’s title, Gollum takes center stage in the storyline. The role will once again be portrayed by Andy Serkis, who is also stepping in as director. The screenplay is crafted by Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, both of whom contributed to Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings and Hobbit trilogies. Notably, Peter Jackson himself will serve as one of the executive producers.

The primary events of the film will unfold concurrently with the beginning of the Lord of the Rings saga, specifically during the time between Bilbo’s birthday and Gollum’s arrival in Moria. While the cast is yet to be announced, it’s worth mentioning that Ian McKellen, Viggo Mortensen, and Orlando Bloom have previously expressed interest in reprising their roles if their characters are included in the plot.
