Realme GT Neo 2: The Mid-Range Powerhouse Designed for Gamers and Everyday Users

The Realme GT Neo 2 marks the third entry in Realme’s GT lineup to debut in India. While it boasts a premium appearance, it positions itself effectively between the mid-tier Realme GT Master Edition (Review) and the high-end Realme GT (Review).

Given its relatively affordable pricing, the Realme GT Neo 2 opts for the Snapdragon 870 instead of the more powerful Snapdragon 888 found in the GT. It lacks some of the unique features like the Maglev Triggers, dedicated gaming button, or RGB lighting seen in the Poco F3 GT (Review), but its AMOLED display does feature a commendable high touch sampling rate that gamers will appreciate. With its understated design, can the Realme GT Neo 2 capture the interest of both gamers and non-gamers alike? Here are my initial thoughts after a brief period of use.

The official pricing of the Realme GT Neo 2 starts at Rs. 31,999 in India, and it comes in three color options: Neo Green, Neo Blue, and Neo Black. I received the distinctive Neo Green version for this review. Two configurations are available: an 8GB RAM with 128GB storage variant priced at Rs. 31,999, and a more robust 12GB RAM with 256GB storage model priced at Rs. 35,999. Additionally, there are promotional offers at launch that could reduce these prices by as much as Rs. 7,000, though such offers are time-limited.

The display of the Realme GT Neo 2 features a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz and a peak touch sampling rate of 600Hz

While the general design remains consistent across colors, the Neo Green variant I received sports a unique finish. It has a dual-tone glass back: the green sections have a soft matte texture, while the black stripe is glossy. The frame, made of polycarbonate, has a matte finish yet exudes a premium feel. Unlike other GT models, the GT Neo 2 does not come with an IP rating.

This smartphone features a 6.62-inch full-HD E4 AMOLED display, which Realme claims is more power-efficient than traditional Super AMOLED screens. The hole-punch display showcases a 120Hz refresh rate along with a peak touch sampling rate of 600Hz, which will appeal to gamers. The refresh rate is adaptive, automatically adjusting between 30Hz, 60Hz, 90Hz, and 120Hz based on the application being used. It also supports HDR10+, and the screen is safeguarded by Corning Gorilla Glass 5.

The Realme GT Neo 2 is equipped with three rear cameras

On the rear, the Realme GT Neo 2 houses three cameras: a 64-megapixel main shooter, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide lens, and a 2-megapixel macro camera. For selfies, it has a 16-megapixel front camera.

The device is powered by a 5,000mAh battery, a first for the GT series, and supports charging via a 65W charger included in the box. It operates on Realme UI 2.0, which is based on Android 11.

The Realme GT Neo 2, similar to its counterparts, appears to offer solid hardware for its price point. If it can deliver impressive photo and video capabilities along with robust battery life and gaming performance, it could become a versatile player in its category. This will be crucial for its appeal beyond just the gaming audience, targeting those in search of a reliable all-rounder with a budget a little over Rs. 30,000. I will be thoroughly examining these features in my comprehensive review, which will be published soon.
