RANEPA Responds to Gubernievs Criticism of Zagitovas Spelling Mistakes

Lidia Kornilova, one of the instructors of the 2018 Olympic champion Alina Zagitova at the Russian Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (RANEPA), commented on the criticism directed at her student by renowned journalist and commentator Dmitry Guberniev regarding spelling mistakes.

«Is Guberniev criticizing Zagitova’s education? I’ve already shared how Alina completed and defended her thesis. Furthermore, the internal disputes among representatives of the same profession shouldn’t concern me at all. I also want to mention that there used to be an outstanding journalist, Yegor Yakovlev, who led ‘Moskovskie Novosti’ and later the First Channel. He once spelled ‘gallery’ with three ‘l’s and ‘cow’ with an ‘a.’ Yes, sometimes people misspeak or make spelling errors. It would be ideal if the world around us were perfect, but that’s not always the case. Some individuals excel in one area and learn to be equally skilled in another,” Kornilova stated in an interview with Sport24.

Interestingly, one of Alina’s most famous spelling mistakes— «inevitably» (безызбежно) — has even been turned into merchandise.
