Pitchford: Misconfiguration, Not Optimization, Blamed for Borderlands 4s PC Issues

The bosses at Take-Two have yet to cut off Internet access for Randy Pitchford, the head of Gearbox Software, which is why he continues to share insights on social media platform X. In a recent series of posts, the CEO addressed the criticisms directed at the PC version of Borderlands 4.

Firstly, Pitchford asserted that his team has created an optimized action game and advised users to adjust their graphics settings according to their hardware capabilities.

While the Gearbox leader maintains that many players are simply using settings that are too high, he also acknowledged the existence of technical issues and assured that the studio is actively investigating them.

Additionally, Pitchford emphasized that Borderlands 4 was designed with DLSS in mind, suggesting that players should take advantage of upscaling.

In an effort to counter the narrative about the poor quality of Borderlands 4 on PC, he shared support statistics. According to Pitchford, only around 1% of players who installed the game have reached out to Gearbox. Not all of these inquiries were about performance:

When it comes to performance issues on computers, only 0.04% of customers contacted support regarding this matter. Furthermore, specialists deemed only 0.009% of complaints as valid, with the majority resolved through tuning recommendations for the shooter.

As of this writing, Borderlands 4 has garnered 22,000 reviews on Steam, with a 65% positive rating. A patch aimed at enhancing the stability of the PC version was released a couple of days ago, but based on feedback, it appears to have made little difference.
