Paradox Acknowledges Financial Setback for Vampire: The Masquerade — Bloodlines 2

A month ago,  Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 was finally released, having endured years of development turmoil. Unsurprisingly, the game failed to impress both the press and the fans of the original  Bloodlines, leading to the publisher’s disappointment in its financial performance.

The failure was acknowledged by representatives of Paradox Interactive, who decided to write off 355 million Swedish kronor (just over $37 million) in capitalized development costs. Notably, the company refrained from blaming the developers at The Chinese Room, taking full responsibility instead:

Fredrik Wester, CEO of Paradox Interactive

It’s worth mentioning that a year ago, Paradox management stated that they would not be producing Bloodlines 3, even if the sequel proved to be a success. According to Deputy CEO Mattias Lilja, Paradox has re-evaluated its development strategy and chosen to focus on titles that generate the most profit, specifically strategies with additional DLCs, to which Bloodlines, for obvious reasons, does not belong.

Lilja also noted that if any external company wishes to develop Bloodlines 3, Paradox would only be able to provide a license for production, without any involvement in the project.

As for Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2, content support for the game is ongoing, with two story expansions scheduled for release next year. Bloodlines 2 is available on PC (Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series, with text available in Russian localization.
