Oppo Find X8 Ultra: A Flagship Phone That Could Have Shined Brightly in India, But Remains Out of Reach

We’ve received yet another Ultra smartphone for review. However, I’m left feeling disappointed that this model won’t be released in India. Indeed, the Find X8 Ultra is the new generation of the Find X7 Ultra (which also never made it to the Indian market). This indicates that the Find X8 Pro and Find X8 (Review) will still be the top-tier flagship devices for consumers in India seeking the finest from Oppo. So, compared to the X8 offerings present in India, what advantages does the X8 Ultra provide? Quite a lot, actually.

The X8 Ultra features a better resolution display than the X8 Pro and incorporates the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite (8-Core) as opposed to the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 found in the X8 Pro. Additionally, it has a 1-inch main sensor, which is absent in the X8 Pro. On top of that, the device offers quicker wired charging and a larger battery. On paper, the X8 Ultra certainly seems like a device that should have launched in India and could have confidently competed with rivals like the iPhone 16 Pro Max (Review), Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, and Xiaomi 15 Ultra. Nonetheless, should you wish to obtain the X8 Ultra, what should you anticipate? To find out, continue reading my review.

Oppo asserts that the Find X8 Ultra is the slimmest camera flagship at just 8.78mm

Oppo Find X8 Ultra Design and Display: Eye-catching design and breathtaking visuals

  • Dimensions: 163.09×76.80×8.78mm
  • Weight: 226 grams
  • Display: 6.82-inch ProXDR AMOLED with a peak brightness of 2500nits
  • IP68 and IP69 certification

The Find X8 Ultra showcases a completely fresh design for Oppo’s Ultra device series. The Find X7 Ultra (Review) exhibited a notable dual-tone finish, but Oppo opted for a more subdued color scheme this time. It’s more aligned with the aesthetics of the X8 Pro and the X8 smartphones. The rear camera system certainly has an ‘Ultra’ vibe, which has become somewhat accepted in recent trends. The Oppo Find X8 Ultra’s camera setup includes four 50-megapixel sensors and a True Chroma module, a multispectral array that I will discuss further in the camera section.

The phone is available in Matte Black, Pure White, and Shell Pink (as shown above)

Oppo has been boasting that the Find X8 Ultra holds the title of the thinnest camera smartphone. At 8.78mm, it surpasses the Find X7 Ultra (9.5mm) and Xiaomi 15 Ultra (9.48mm). They claim this remarkable achievement was made possible through a complete redesign of its internal components. While daily usage confirms the mobile’s weight of 226 grams feels well-balanced, it maintains a flat profile similar to other premium devices available today. The curved edges and matte glass back provide a pleasing tactile experience.

The camera module’s circular design is dubbed the Cosmos Ring by the company. A noteworthy feature is that the cameras are symmetrically arranged with branding from the esteemed camera manufacturer, Hasselblad. Oppo has paid careful attention to detail, featuring an orange dot on the rear that highlights imaging capabilities and nods to the camera brand’s shutter button. Oppo has executed the detail-oriented aspect perfectly.

The rear camera arrangement of the Find X8 Ultra comes with Hasselblad branding

Interestingly, yet another smartphone manufacturer has partnered with Apple, embracing the trend of incorporating physical buttons on their devices. The Find X8 Ultra includes a Shortcut Button and a Quick Button, which have also been seen on the Find X8 Pro. The Quick Button serves as a shortcut to access the device’s cameras through a double-tap, followed by swiping for zoom options or long pressing for burst shots. The Shortcut Button acts as an advanced notification slider, altering sound and vibration modes with just a long press. It can also be personalized to activate features such as the flashlight, voice recording, translation assistance, or take screenshots.

The Find X8 Ultra exhibits a glass design but notably features a rear that resists fingerprints. Oppo claims Corning Gorilla Glass is utilized on both the front and back, although it remains unspecified if it is the latest version. Additionally, the device boasts SGS Five-Star drop resistance certification, allowing for comfortable use without a protective case. Like several Android flagships, the Find X8 Ultra has been rated IP68 and IP69 for dust and water resistance.

The device features a 6.82-inch LTPO OLED display with an adaptable 120Hz refresh rate

The Find X8 Ultra can be acquired in Matte Black, Pure White, and Shell Pink. Curiously, the version I received in India is Shell Pink, which initially wasn’t my top color choice but has since grown on me. The subtle shade and matte surface exude sophistication and offer a refined presence. The phone also incorporates an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner that is responsive and consistently reliable.

Transitioning to the display, the Find X8 Ultra is equipped with a 6.82-inch AMOLED LTPO display that offers a 120Hz Adaptive refresh rate, a screen resolution of 1440×3168 pixels, a pixel density of 510PPI, and can reach up to 2160Hz PWM dimming. It supports Dolby Vision and achieves a peak brightness of 2500nits. Everything about the Find X8 Ultra’s display quality is top-tier aside from the peak brightness, which ideally should be at least 3000nits, if not higher. For reference, the Find X8 Pro and Find X7 Ultra showcase peak brightness levels of 4500nits.

The peak brightness is limited to 1600nits, which is less than some competing devices

In terms of raw performance, the Find X8 Ultra boasts an impressive display. I thoroughly enjoyed watching videos and gaming on this device, as it can produce vivid colors and maintains brightness even outdoors. It has Widevine L1 support, enabling the playback of HDR content across various OTT platforms. As mentioned earlier, everything about the Find X8 Ultra’s display is flagship quality, aside from the peak brightness, which could see improvements.

Oppo Find X8 Ultra Performance: Premium standards

  • SoC: Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite (8-Core)
  • RAM: Up to 16GB LDDDR5X
  • Storage: Up to 1TB UFS 4.1
  • OS: ColorOS 15 based on Android 15

With the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, the Find X8 Ultra stands at the pinnacle of Android devices (at least until the second half of 2025). The model I received comes with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, while a 1 TB variant is available in China.

The phone is equipped with UFS 4.1 storage

During daily use, the Find X8 Ultra is swift and can efficiently manage up to 35 apps running in the background without any issues. My experience gaming on titles like Call of Duty: Mobile and BGMI was delightful, as the graphics at Medium settings with Ultra frame rates were superb. Even after gaming continuously for 45 minutes, the device remained cool, with the vapor chamber and graphite and copper layers efficiently cooling it down afterward.

Regarding benchmark scores, the Find X8 Ultra is a flagship product, and the table below illustrates its performance compared to competitors.

One department where the Find X8 Ultra indeed excels is its haptic feedback (0916T). The outstanding vibration motor takes your gaming and typing experience to entirely new heights. The Find X8 Ultra truly shines in performance with its outstanding specifications.

The Find X8 Ultra operates on ColorOS 15, based on Android 15

The smartphone runs on ColorOS 15, which is based on Android 15, accompanied by the company’s commitment to offer 5 years of OS and 6 years of security updates. The updated ColorOS introduces a multitude of AI features, which are all the rage in the industry, so naturally, Oppo is capitalizing on this trend.

Features such as AI Photo Remaster, AI Clarity Enhancer, AI Reflection Remover, AI Unblur, AI Eraser, AI Perfect Shot, and AI Studio are included. There are also productivity-focused AI tools like AI Reply, which provides pre-typed text suggestions for quick responses, and AI Writer, AI Speak, AI Assistant for Notes, AI Recording Summary, and AI Summary for documents like PDFs. Oppo asserts that the Trinity Engine enhances CPU and system performance through smart caching. ColorOS 15 also integrates the new O+ Connect app, facilitating file transfers between Oppo devices and iPhone/iPad. Moreover, there is a Zen Mode-like feature named Aqua Dynamics, designed to minimize distractions.

The smartphone features an 8-core Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC

Overall, the Find X8 Ultra represents a remarkable offering from Oppo, and as I mentioned at the beginning of my review, it’s unfortunate that this model isn’t coming to India.

Oppo Find X8 Ultra Camera: Setting a New Standard

  • Camera configuration: Quad camera system
  • Main: 50-megapixel Sony LYT900 1-inch sensor with f/1.8 aperture
  • Telephoto: 50-megapixel (3x) Sony LYT700 1/1.56-inch with f/2.1 aperture
  • 50-megapixel (6x) Sony LYT600 1/1.95-inch with f/3.1 aperture
  • Selfie: 32-megapixel sensor

The Find X8 Ultra’s most significant asset is its camera setup. If there’s anything that legitimizes its ‘Ultra’ title, it’s the photography capabilities. Moving right into raw camera performance, the Find X8 Ultra delivers outstanding daylight images. The samples I captured revealed numerous details with vibrant, true-to-life colors. The dynamic range was impressive across a majority of shots. I recently took the Find X8 Ultra on a trip to Spiti, and here are some stunning captures from that adventure.

The rear boasts four 50-megapixel cameras

The results are incredible whether using the 1x or 2x zoom lenses, showing minimal variation between the two options.

Portrait images are also impressively handled, as seen in a sample captured while traveling to Spiti. I was particularly impressed with how the phone preserved skin tones and facial details without oversharpening. Depth perception is remarkably accurate, ensuring excellent subject isolation.

The two telephoto lenses significantly benefit the Find X8 Ultra, particularly in contrast to the Find X8 Pro. The 3x telephoto sensor is great for macro and standard shots alike.

The images taken feature incredible detail, precise exposure, and vibrant colors. Remarkably, the noise is well-managed across various lighting environments. The 6x lens also proves to be beneficial for zoom photography, allowing for impressive reach; I captured some stunning 6x shots featuring rich detail, splendid dynamic range, and vibrant hues.

The 50-megapixel ultrawide camera also performs impressively, managing to capture beautiful images in various lighting situations.

In terms of low-light photography, the Find X8 Ultra delivers excellent results, as shown in the two images captured in near darkness. Notably, the processing is well executed, maintaining a natural appearance without excessive alteration. And the noise reduction techniques are commendable.

The selfie camera, featuring a 32-megapixel sensor, lacks the advanced features that the rear cameras possess; however, the daylight photos turn out well, and low-light captures are acceptable. Nonetheless, they do not impress me significantly. Regarding video, all the cameras support up to 4K (60 fps) recording, with the rear capable of 4K (120fps) as well. Although the device does not allow 8K recording, it does support Dolby Vision.

All in all, with the Find X8 Ultra, Oppo continues to set a new standard for smartphone photography. I must reiterate that this model is locked to China and may not be available in India. The company has introduced a new image processing engine, Lumo, which works seamlessly across lenses with a particular focus on portrait photography. I sincerely hope that the 1-inch sensor and camera technology find a release in India eventually, as this phone’s photographic prowess is unmatched in Oppo’s history.

The Find X8 Ultra carries an IP68 and IP69 rating

Oppo Find X8 Ultra Battery: Your dependable companion

  • Capacity: 6100mAh battery
  • Fast-charging: 100W SUPERVOOC wired charging, 50W wireless charging
  • 10W reverse wireless charging

Equipped with a solid 6100mAh battery, the Find X8 Ultra sees a substantial increase from the previous generation’s 5000mAh battery and the 5910mAh unit of the Find X8 Pro. Additionally, it supports 100W SUPERVOOC wired charging, 50W AIRVOOC wireless charging, and 10W reverse wireless charging.

Throughout my testing, the Find X8 Ultra easily managed over a day of heavy use. My tests included keeping more than 30 apps running simultaneously, including utilities, messaging, gaming, and various multimedia applications like YouTube, Netflix, and ESPN. Given that the Find X8 Ultra emphasizes photography, I dedicated a full hour to camera usage, which did raise the temperature slightly without significantly affecting battery longevity. The Find X8 Ultra can charge to 60% from dead in less than 20 minutes, thanks to its fast-charging capabilities.

The Find X8 Ultra includes a 6100mAh battery

In our HD video loop test, the Find X8 Ultra lasted approximately 23 hours and 35 minutes, establishing a mark for recent phones I’ve reviewed. This device definitely makes a statement in the battery performance category.

Oppo Find X8 Ultra Conclusion

The Find X8 Ultra represents another remarkable offering from Oppo that unfortunately won’t be available for purchase in India, limiting my ability to recommend it to my audience. Like other Ultra models, the Find X8 Ultra features a 1-inch sensor, placing it at the top tier among camera smartphones. Considering the Find X8 Pro lacks this feature, Oppo should have launched the Ultra model in India, perhaps as a limited edition, as it’s an attractive package that camera enthusiasts would find compelling despite its premium price.

The Oppo Find X8 Ultra features two physical buttons — Shortcut and Quick Button

The Find X8 Ultra checks numerous boxes, such as a premium design, top-notch display, robust performance, and impressive battery life. The camera functionality remains a standout feature of the device. Particularly, the decision to reduce weight to create a more streamlined camera smartphone is a brilliant move. Imagine having a 1-inch sensor without the bulkiness of a traditional device, that’s something worth considering. The integration of dedicated physical buttons may appeal to users wanting quick access to functions without going through on-screen options.

If you’re in India and seeking an exceptional camera smartphone, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra (Review) is definitely worth your attention. Additionally, there’s the Vivo X200 Pro (Review) that is both impressive and capable. For those with a generous budget, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra (Review) offers a comprehensive package that is outstanding in more than just camera performance.
