Oppo Find X8 Ultra: A Dream Flagship Unveiled, But Not for India

It’s time for another month and a fresh Ultra model! The Oppo Find X8 Ultra has just been launched in China. True to expectations, this new Ultra model is an enhancement over its predecessor across nearly all aspects and stands out as a genuine flagship for 2025. However, if you’re in India and feeling excited, temper your enthusiasm—this Ultra won’t be available in India, which isn’t surprising given that the Find X7 Ultra also didn’t arrive here. We managed to get our hands on the device recently, and here are our initial observations.

Oppo Find X8 Ultra: What Comes in the Box

The Oppo Find X8 Ultra will be launched in various RAM and storage configurations in China. The starting price is set at CNY 6,499 (approximately Rs. 76,300) for the base (12GB + 256GB) variant, CNY 6,999 (approximately Rs. 82,200) for the 16GB + 512GB model, and the highest model costs CNY 7,999 (around Rs. 94,000). Sales will kick off next week on April 16 in China.

It boasts a peak brightness of 1600 nits and a pixel density of 510 PPI

Oppo asserts that the Find X8 Ultra is the thinnest camera smartphone on the market, measuring just 8.78 mm thick. In comparison, the Find X7 Ultra, released last year, was 9.5 mm thick, while the recently reviewed Xiaomi 15 Ultra (Review) measured 9.48 mm thick.

According to the manufacturer, this sleek design has been achieved through various internal refinements, such as a re-engineered motherboard and next-gen silicon-carbon battery technology. Oppo has also joined Apple in introducing two new physical buttons on the Find X8 Ultra. One is a customizable Shortcut Button for any function or app, while the other is a Quick Button that can be used for camera controls.

Cameras, as always, are the main highlight of Oppo’s Ultra smartphone range.

It operates on ColorOS 15, which is based on Android 15

Oppo Find X8 Ultra: First Impressions

When you first hold the Find X8 Ultra, it exudes the essence of a flagship smartphone instantly. On paper, it undoubtedly stands as Oppo’s best offering to date. The Ultra will be available in Matte Black, Pure White, and Shell Pink. I received the Pink variant, and its subtle tone along with the matte finish adds to the phone’s elegant design.

The 6.82-inch Quad HD+ AMOLED display is exceptionally bright and sharp. With support for Dolby Vision, it greatly enhances the multimedia viewing experience. During my brief time with the Find X8 Ultra, I enjoyed reading and watching videos on the vibrant display, but I will hold off on a complete assessment until I’ve had further opportunity to test it.

It features a five-camera system at the rear, which Oppo refers to as the «Holy Trinity in your pocket»

In line with other recent premium phones from Oppo, the Find X8 Ultra carries the Hasselblad branding, renowned in the camera industry. Oppo (Hasselblad), Vivo (Zeiss), and Xiaomi (Leica) are all tightly integrated with their respective camera collaborations.

The Oppo Find X8 Ultra introduces an entirely new penta-camera system that includes a 50-megapixel wide camera equipped with a 1-inch Sony LYT-900 sensor, OIS, 10-bit HDR, and an f/1.8 aperture. It also has a 50-megapixel ultra-wide camera using a Samsung JN5 sensor with an f/2.0 aperture. Additionally, there is a 50-megapixel telephoto camera with a Sony LYT700 sensor that features 3X periscope zoom, as well as another telephoto camera—also 50-megapixels—utilizing a Sony LYT-600 sensor, OIS, 120x digital zoom, and 6x periscope zoom. Lastly, a 2-megapixel color sensor facilitates a multispectral system. For selfies, it has a front-facing 32-megapixel Sony IMX809 sensor. On the video side, Oppo claims that all four rear cameras can record 4K video at 60fps with Dolby Vision, a remarkable addition.

The phone comes with numerous modes, including Hasselblad Portrait Mode

Regarding image quality, the Find X8 Ultra shows significant promise, as indicated by the sample images. They exhibit detailed features, vibrant colors, and minimal noise—this assessment is based on the limited time I’ve had with the smartphone, but stay tuned for our comprehensive review detailing the camera upgrades over the Find X7 Ultra, which we previously praised as a camera powerhouse.

With the Ultra launch, Oppo has also introduced Lumo, their next-gen image processing engine. They highlighted this feature during the official unveiling in China, emphasizing its significance for smartphone photography by enhancing clarity, speed, and color fidelity. I will explore this technology in greater detail in my review.

The phone is equipped with features that enhance durability for daily use, such as IP68 and IP69 ratings, in addition to an SGS five-star drop resistance certification—an interesting note. It also supports a 3D ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, making it prompt for everyday handling.

Like other top-end flagships, the Find X8 Ultra is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. During my limited interaction with the device, it appeared to perform seamlessly. More detailed performance insights will be shared in our forthcoming review.

Oppo Find X8 Ultra features a 6100mAh battery and supports 100W fast charging

With this Ultra model, Oppo has significantly improved battery performance. Compared to competitors, the Find X8 Ultra boasts the largest battery at 6100mAh and supports 100W SuperVOOC quick charging.

In summary, the Find X8 Ultra appears to be a formidable candidate for the top camera phone of 2025 worldwide. Be sure to follow Gadgets 360 for a comprehensive review of the Find X8 Ultra.
