OpenAI раскрывает новый магазин приложений для ChatGPT: разработчики могут создавать интеграции и монетизировать свои решения Translation: OpenAI unveils new app store for ChatGPT: developers can create integrations and monetize their solutions

OpenAI has launched an app store specifically designed for ChatGPT. Developers can submit their applications for integration within the chatbot.

The first approved applications are set to be available in 2026. In the future, the most sought-after tools might receive preferential treatment in AI recommendations and search results.

Users can browse the available applications in the app directory, which can be accessed through the «Tools» menu or at chatgpt.com/apps.

Developers will be able to share direct links on external platforms, guiding users to their apps within the directory.

Once integrated, these applications can be activated during conversations using the @ symbol. The company is also experimenting with displaying them contextually based on the conversation, usage patterns of third-party solutions, and user preferences without explicit mentions.

To facilitate such integrations, OpenAI has introduced the Apps SDK. This toolkit enables developers to embed context and interactive features directly within the ChatGPT interface.

«The most effective applications are clearly focused, intuitive in chat, and deliver tangible value—whether by completing real workflows that start with a discussion or creating new, AI-centric capabilities within ChatGPT,» as noted by the startup in its blog.

Initially, developers will be allowed to direct users to external sites for purchasing physical goods, with additional monetization strategies currently being explored.

«Over time, we envision ChatGPT applications as a natural extension of dialogue—helping users advance from ideas to actions and fostering a sustainable ecosystem for developers,» stated OpenAI.

In October, Sam Altman’s company revealed the ability for creators to build applications within ChatGPT, enabling users to engage directly with services like Booking.com, Expedia, Spotify, Figma, Coursera, Zillow, Canva, and more.

In December, Adobe tools such as Photoshop, Acrobat, and Express were incorporated into the chatbot, allowing users to design, edit images, and PDF files directly through the chat interface.

The competition from Google and other AI firms prompted Altman to declare a «code red.»

This is not the first instance of such a decision; the startup’s leadership has previously urged employees to set aside secondary tasks and focus solely on primary objectives.

«We take this approach when we want to concentrate efforts on a specific topic,» explained OpenAI’s Research Director, Mark Chen.

The latest «code red» was announced amid the rising popularity of solutions from Google and Anthropic. Gemini is increasingly becoming a popular AI service, nearing ChatGPT in user preference.

In November, Google announced its flagship Gemini 3 model, touted as «the best in the world.» Subsequently, the company released a new version of its image generation tool, Nano Banana Pro.

Since the declaration of «code red,» OpenAI has launched several updates in response to developments from the American corporation, including GPT-5.2 and the latest version of the ChatGPT Images generator, GPT Image 1.5.

As a reminder, in December, Google released the Gemini 3 Flash language model and made it the default in the Gemini app and AI mode in its search engine.
