Olympic Champion Gisen Suffers Spinal Injury During Training in St. Moritz

Two-time Olympic gold medalist in alpine skiing, Swiss athlete **[Michele Gisen](https://www.example.com)**, sustained a spinal injury during training runs for the downhill event before the start of the 2025/2026 World Cup stage in St. Moritz, according to a statement from the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS).

Gisen crashed into the barriers while descending at a speed of 110 km/h. As a result of the fall, she suffered an injury to her cervical spine, as well as damage to her right wrist and left knee. Rescue services transported her via helicopter to a hospital in Zurich, where she is set to undergo surgery on her cervical spine shortly. Her condition is reported as stable, and she has retained mobility in both her upper and lower limbs.

At 32 years old, Gisen is an Olympic champion in the combined event (2018 and 2022) and a bronze medalist in the super-G at the 2018 Games.
