NetEase Shuts Down Veterans Studio Just After Launch: The Fate of Fantastic Pixel Castle

In the fall of 2023, former executive producer of the upcoming MMORPG based on League of Legends, Greg Street, established a studio called Fantastic Pixel Castle under the umbrella of NetEase Games and began working on a high-budget fantasy MMO codenamed Ghost. However, it seems that progress over the past two years has not impressed the parent company, leading NetEase to decide to close down Street’s venture. The closure will take effect on November 17. The developer announced this personally on his LinkedIn page.

Since its inception, Fantastic Pixel Castle has only shared three concept arts for its debut project, which has yet to receive a full announcement. Nevertheless, Greg Street is not giving up; he stated that the team still has a chance to secure external funding and potentially re-establish Fantastic Pixel Castle as an independent studio. For now, however, Street is focused on supporting affected colleagues:

At this time, gamers (along with the employees of Fantastic Pixel Castle) are left to wait for the closure process to conclude. As for the aforementioned MMO based on League of Legends, it still has no release timeline. This is not surprising, considering that last spring, the development was restarted.
