Motorola Edge 30 Fusion: The Sleek New Contender Set to Disrupt the Premium Smartphone Market

Motorola has unveiled its latest high-end smartphone, the Edge 30 Fusion. This new ‘flagship killer’ fits into the lineup alongside the Motorola Edge 30 (Review) and the Edge 30 Pro, both released earlier this year in India. The Motorola Edge 30 Fusion is designed to offer a perfect blend of a premium, slim, and lightweight build while delivering top-tier performance. It is powered by last year’s flagship Qualcomm chipset, the Snapdragon 888+.

Motorola has also rolled out a new sustainable retail packaging for the Edge 30 Fusion. The packaging is quite spacious, indicating the inclusion of a charger. The unit I received is in Cosmic Grey, which certainly appears sleek and upscale. There’s an additional Solar Gold variant for those seeking a more vibrant finish.

The package includes a 68W charging adapter. Additionally, it comes with a USB Type-C to Type-C cable and a transparent case, which, while providing some level of protection, slightly compromises the phone’s elegant look.

As for the smartphone itself, the Motorola Edge 30 Fusion features glass on both front and back surfaces, with an aluminum frame that offers a premium feel in hand. Despite having a glass rear and a reasonably sized 4,400mAh battery, it remains lightweight at 175 grams and slim at 7.45mm thick. Motorola claims that a mere 10-minute charge with the 68W TurboPower charger can deliver a full day’s worth of use. The device also holds an IP52 rating for water resistance.

Motorola Edge 30 Fusion boasts a curved-edge display

The front sports a large 6.55-inch pOLED display with a hole-punch design at the top. Similar to Motorola’s recent high-end offerings, the Edge 30 Fusion’s display features a 144Hz refresh rate. The sides are slightly curved, and the thin bezels contribute to an immersive viewing experience. It achieves adequate brightness for both indoor and outdoor use, with Motorola stating a peak brightness of 1,100 nits. Furthermore, it includes Corning Gorilla Glass 5 for enhanced scratch and shatter resistance.

The power and volume controls are located on the right side, while the SIM card tray, USB Type-C port, and main speaker grill are positioned at the bottom. The earpiece also acts as a secondary speaker, enhancing the stereo sound output.

Regarding performance, the Motorola Edge 30 Fusion includes a Snapdragon 888+ processor. It comes in a single configuration with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. In the brief time I’ve used the phone, I haven’t experienced any overheating issues; however, we will conduct thorough performance and gaming assessments in the full review to determine its capability with demanding tasks, so stay tuned.

The Motorola Edge 30 Fusion is equipped with a 50-megapixel triple-camera system on the rear

We will also be evaluating the camera performance. The Motorola Edge 30 Fusion is equipped with a 50-megapixel primary camera with an f/1.8 aperture, a 13-megapixel ultra-wide camera capable of macro shots, and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. For selfies, it features a 32-megapixel front-facing camera. The camera interface is quite straightforward and offers various modes like Portrait, Video, Night Vision, Auto Smile Capture, and Timelapse.

Lastly, let’s discuss the software. The Motorola Edge 30 Fusion operates on the Android 12-based MyUX interface right out of the box. The smartphone provides a nearly stock Android experience with added custom features like Moto gestures, wallpapers, fonts, and more. Motorola promises two major Android updates and three years of software support for the Edge 30 Fusion.
