Motion Twin Chooses Creative Freedom Over Dead Cells Sequel, Focusing on Windblown Instead

Last summer, the independent studio **Motion Twin** halted its content support for the critically acclaimed game Dead Cells to focus on a new cooperative roguelike titled Windblown. What prompted the developers to move away from their flagship title and create something entirely different instead of a sequel? In a recent interview with journalists from PCGamesN, game designer and creative director **Yannick Berthier** shed light on this question.

According to **Berthier**, the key factors were their creative ambitions and desire for freedom. While the massive success of Hades inspired **Supergiant Games** to work on the studio’s first-ever sequel, **Motion Twin** opted to pursue something fresh, as their independent team «follows the heart, not the head.» **Berthier** acknowledged that a sequel to **Dead Cells** would have been a more pragmatic business decision, but the team chose to take a gamble.

**Windblown** launched in early access on Steam a year ago, and since then, the developers have been providing global updates with new content and rebalancing core systems. A full release date has yet to be announced. Currently, **Windblown** boasts over 8,000 reviews, with 89% of them being positive.
