Micron расширяет производство чипов памяти в Японии на фоне роста спроса на ИИ Translation: Micron Expands Memory Chip Production in Japan Amid Surge in AI Demand

Micron Technology is investing 1.5 trillion yen ($9.6 billion) to construct a new high-bandwidth memory chip manufacturing facility in Hiroshima, Japan. This was reported by Reuters.

The demand for HBM (High Bandwidth Memory) chips is driven by a surge in artificial intelligence and data centers catering to the industry.

The American company plans to commence construction in May 2026 at an existing site, with product shipments anticipated by 2028.

The expansion in Hiroshima aims to diversify Micron’s production, shifting the focus from Taiwan. This investment will also strengthen the firm’s competitive standing against market leader SK Hynix.

The Indian Adani Group plans to invest up to $5 billion in a company owned by Alphabet, Google. The stated objective is to capitalize on the increasing demand for data storage capacity in the world’s most populous country.

In October, Google announced its intention to invest $15 billion to establish a data center in the southern state of Andhra Pradesh.

Adani’s Chief Financial Officer, Jugeshinder Singh, clarified that the company will be involved in the project through a joint venture with the private data center operator EdgeConneX.

Indian billionaires Gautam Adani and Mukesh Ambani have also disclosed investments aimed at expanding data center capabilities. The initial capacity of the facility being built in the port city of Visakhapatnam will be 1 GW.

This year, Google committed to spending $85 billion to expand data centers to meet the rising demand for AI services.

It is worth noting that the technology company plans to increase computing power for artificial intelligence by a factor of 1000.
