Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Sets New Low Score for the Series

In just a few days, the release of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is set to take place, prompting Nintendo to lift the embargo on final reviews. While the vast majority of critiques have been positive, Beyond has still emerged as the lowest-rated entry in the Metroid Prime quadrilogy. At the time of this announcement, it holds an average score of 81 on both Metacritic and OpenCritic, with a recommendation rate of 83%, whereas the previous three installments scored over 90.

The criticisms largely focus on the new features, including a less engaging open world and somewhat mediocre companions. Additionally, some journalists have expressed dissatisfaction with the weak storyline and linear environments that lack substantial challenges. On the other hand, the technical aspects and core gameplay mechanics have received acclaim.
