Marvel Rivals Introduces Costume Customization, But Only for Premium Currency

NetEase Games has announced the introduction of a costume customization feature in Marvel Rivals. Players can now alter the color schemes of their favorite skins. However, this update has sparked mixed reactions within the community, as customization comes at a significant cost.

To modify a costume’s color, players need a new currency called Unstable Molecules, which can currently only be obtained by exchanging premium currency, Lattice, at a 1:1 ratio. Each color variant of a skin will cost 600 Unstable Molecules, roughly equivalent to around $6. Additionally, only those costumes that players have already purchased can be customized, and the selection of skins is presently limited to four. NetEase has promised to expand this selection in the future.

Many players have expressed disappointment, anticipating that customization would be free or at least obtainable through gameplay. Fans on Reddit and X have complained that the introduction of another currency complicates the already confusing economy of the game. Some players deem the price of 600 Lattice to be excessive, suggesting it should be reduced to 200-300. Nevertheless, developers confirmed that beginning with the third season, Unstable Molecules will be obtainable through additional methods.

To recap, the second season of Marvel Rivals launched on April 11 and is titled Hellfire Gala, featuring its first hero, Emma Frost. A new character, Ultron, will be introduced mid-season. A Krakoa map has been added, and team abilities have been revamped: some have been added, while others have been removed to streamline the experience. The network infrastructure has been enhanced, and an experimental shader loading mode has been implemented to improve startup times and reduce crashes on PCs with 16 GB of RAM or lower.

Starting from the third season, Marvel Rivals will switch to a two-month update schedule for PC (Steam, EGS), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series.
