Marla Maples Defends Bitcoin Jesus Roger Ver Amid Legal Troubles

Marla Maples, the former wife of U.S. President Donald Trump, has voiced her support for ending the criminal prosecution of Roger Ver, the founder of Bitcoin.com.

She retweeted a video titled «Who is Roger Ver?» created by the public support group Freerogernow, encouraging people to share it as «additional information in the call to cease prosecution.»

In her message, Maples also referenced Attorney General Pam Bondi, Elon Musk, head of the DOGE, and Trump himself. She was married to the current president from 1993 to 1999, and they share a daughter, Tiffany.

At the end of April 2024, Ver, known as «Bitcoin Jesus,» was arrested in Spain at the request of the U.S. Department of Justice. He faces allegations of mail fraud, tax evasion, and filing false returns, with the alleged damages amounting to $48 million.

Ver renounced his U.S. citizenship in 2014 but, under current law, was still required to report certain income to the IRS.

In December 2024, the entrepreneur challenged the tax charges in a California court. In an interview with journalist Tucker Carlson, Ver claimed that the actual reason for his persecution is his political views, suggesting that the government disapproves of his statements and his role in promoting cryptocurrencies.

The Freerogernow group includes several high-profile individuals, such as Forbes contributor Jeffrey Tucker, radio show host Alex Jones, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, and the creator of the dark web marketplace Silk Road, Ross Ulbricht.

Trump granted clemency to Ulbricht with an executive order in January 2025, who was serving two life sentences plus an additional 40 years.

When asked by a user about the possibility of a similar decision regarding the Bitcoin.com founder, Musk responded:

«Roger Ver renounced his U.S. citizenship. No forgiveness. Membership has its privileges.»

It is worth noting that Casa co-founder Jameson Lopp speculated that «Bitcoin Jesus» is unwilling to settle IRS claims out of court due to a lack of the necessary funds.
