Mail Cloud Surges to 335 Petabytes with 23% Rise in Unique Files

VK has announced that the number of unique files in Mail Cloud has increased by 23% compared to the same period last year. By the end of February 2025, the total volume of data in VK’s cloud storage reached 335 petabytes, with the number of stored unique files surpassing 45.5 billion, as reported by VK’s press service to the information outlet Habr.

In 2025, users uploaded 5.8 billion files, marking a 17% increase from the same timeframe in 2024. The most common formats were images (jpg, heic, png), which occupy the majority of the cloud storage space. The count of unique photos reached 28 billion, with a total size of 70 petabytes—an increase of 50% compared to the previous year. There is also a sustained interest from users in video files, which numbered 2.5 billion in the cloud service.

The head of the Mail and Mail Cloud product division noted, «Mail Cloud has long evolved beyond just a data storage disk. We are currently focused on simplifying file and document management, as well as expanding the use cases of neural networks for content generation.»
