Long-Dormant Bitcoin Whale Moves $468 Million After 14 Years of Silence

On July 24, a wallet associated with an «early» whale transferred 3,962 BTC (approximately $468 million at the current exchange rate) to a new address, attracting the attention of Whale Alert analysts.

This marked the first time in 14 years that the owner of the original cryptocurrency was active. The Bitcoin that was transferred was acquired at a price of $0.393 per coin back in January 2011, when their value was estimated at $1,453.

Users have speculated that the whale might have moved the funds to a more secure wallet. Others pointed to a potential connection with Satoshi Nakamoto. However, the true identity of the address owner remains unverified.

Whale Alert analysts also noted two significant transactions involving Ethereum. One wallet transferred 31,168 ETH (around $113 million) to Coinbase Institutional, while another sent 27,090 ETH (approximately $98 million) to Cumberland.

To recap, on July 17, an inactive whale from 2011 «awoke» and moved 80,000 BTC to eight new wallets. Analysts suggested this investor might be preparing to sell the assets through the over-the-counter service offered by Galaxy Digital.
