Linux Format Bids Farewell: A 25-Year Journey Comes to an End

The magazine Linux Format has ceased its publication. The final issue, number 329, was released on May 27, 2025, serving as a nostalgic «look back» at the history of Linux. It features interviews with editors, reader projects, and a retrospective on old Linux distributions.

«Join us in celebrating our final issue! Let’s reflect on the evolution of the Linux kernel and open-source software as they transformed the world. We’ll chat with former editors over a pint, revive classic reviews along with Hotpicks and Answers segments, and encourage Windows users to switch to the superior distribution,» reads the description of the last edition.

Additionally, this issue includes articles on building a home server using Debian, an exploration of Linux’s role in supercomputers globally, and a roundup of projects based on Raspberry Pi.

Linux Format, which focused on Linux-based systems, has been in publication since 2000. Its origins trace back to a pilot release called Linux Answers in 1999, which led Future plc to establish it as a regular magazine due to its success.

The magazine was published in several countries, including the USA, Italy, Greece, and Russia. The Russian version began in September 2005 and featured translations from the UK edition along with original content tailored to the development and use of Linux in Russia. The Russian edition stopped publishing in 2019.
