Larians Swen Vincke Acknowledges Older Divinity Games are Outdated Before New Release

The **Divinity** franchise began long before the release of **Original Sin**, the game that started the series, which debuted back in 2002 with **Divine Divinity**. Is it necessary to battle through a host of older games to get ready for the launch of the new **Divinity**? Not at all, assured **Larian Studios** head **Swen Vincke**.

In a recent interview with [GamesRadar+](https://www.gamesradar.com/games/rpg/theyre-a-bit-outdated-larian-boss-swen-vincke-doesnt-believe-you-should-play-the-older-divinity-games-before-the-new-one-unless-you-want-the-lore/), Vincke commented that the upcoming **Divinity** does indeed reference the events from previous games. However, players can still enjoy the new title without prior knowledge of the Rivellon lore.

For newcomers who became interested in **Larian’s** work after experiencing **Baldur’s Gate III**, the studio head recommended the **Original Sin** duology, as it shares many connections with the third **BG** installment. He refrained from suggesting other **Divinity** titles, noting that they haven’t aged as well.

As a reminder, the new **Divinity** will launch in early access, with platforms and release dates yet to be announced.
