Kaspersky Lab Retains Control Over Its UK Entity Despite Regulatory Challenges

Kaspersky Lab has successfully retained its British entity, Kaspersky Labs Limited, despite facing liquidation proceedings initiated by the UK regulator due to the company’s failure to file financial statements. The notification regarding the potential liquidation was issued on March 4, 2025. If the liquidation process had continued, all assets would have been transferred to the UK.

Another entity, Kaspersky Lab UK Limited, received a similar notice. In response, Kaspersky Labs submitted documents to the registrar to halt the liquidation process. The company clarified that the delay in completing the audit was attributed to a change in auditors. The registrar accepted their rationale, and the liquidation did not proceed.

Kaspersky Labs Limited was established in 2001 and oversees the international operations of the group. Prior to 2022, it also managed a Russian legal entity, Kaspersky Lab JSC, which was sold to Eugene Kaspersky along with other subsidiaries.

The company opened its first foreign office in the UK in 1999. In 2024, it was decided to close the UK office, lay off staff, and operate through partners, a plan that has since been executed. Nonetheless, Kaspersky Labs Limited continues its operations.

Currently, Kaspersky Lab operates in 200 countries with 30 offices globally. Its solutions are installed on 1 billion devices, utilized by 200,000 organizations, and the company employs 5,300 individuals. In 2024, its revenues increased by 11% to $822 million, with sales in Russia rising by 17% to 55.94 billion rubles. However, its net profit fell by 30%, totaling 7.4 billion rubles.

Since 2017, both the US and UK have prohibited the use of the company’s software within government entities. In 2024, the US imposed a total ban on its software for citizens and companies, and in 2025, senior executives of Kaspersky Lab were sanctioned. The company has stated it will defend its operations through legal means.
