Kaprizov and McDavid Poised to Become NHLs Highest-Paid Players, Says Friedman

Sports journalist **Elliotte Friedman** has stated that Russian forward **Kirill Kaprizov** of the Minnesota Wild and Canadian winger **Connor McDavid** of the Edmonton Oilers are set to become the highest-paid players in the **NHL**.

«With each passing season, players are receiving ever-increasing salaries, and they are opting for short-term contracts as this strategy helps them to maximize their earnings. Naturally, there is a risk associated with short-term deals, such as injury or a decline in performance, but for stars like McDavid and Kaprizov, securing another substantial payday is unlikely to be an issue. The league anticipates that these two will emerge as the highest earners during the next wave of signings,» Friedman remarked in his [podcast](https://www.sportsnet.ca/podcasts/32-thoughts/).

The current agreement for the 28-year-old Kaprizov with Minnesota has a cap hit of $9 million and is set to run until June 30, 2026. Similarly, McDavid is entering the final season of his eight-year, $100 million contract, which carries a cap hit of $12.5 million. He became eligible for an extension with the team on July 1.
