JerryRigEverything Tests the Durability of Nintendo Switch 2: Screen Vulnerabilities and Joy-Con Resilience Revealed

YouTube blogger JerryRigEverything released a video showcasing the durability tests of the new gaming console, Nintendo Switch 2. While it performed well in most tests, it was discovered that the screen is relatively easy to scratch.

The blogger’s tests assess scratch resistance, heat resistance, and also examine the durability of the Joy-Con 2 controllers.

The Switch 2 features a display covered with a protective plastic film, but it can still show scratches from contact with any metallic object. «You’ll quickly notice that Nintendo opted for a plastic screen. It’s not the ideal choice. As demonstrated by my keys, any metal object making contact with the screen leaves a mark. However, plastic items, such as Lego pieces or the dock, do not create any scratches,» JerryRigEverything explained.

He gave a positive assessment of the Joy-Con 2 controllers’ durability. Previously, users expressed concerns about their reliability due to the use of thin plastic components for attaching the magnetic joysticks to the console. However, the controllers passed the bending test. «If you apply significant force, the Joy-Con just detach. In my view, that’s actually a good thing. The bending angle of the Joy-Con doesn’t damage the internal pins, regardless of how many times they are aggressively disconnected or bent,» the blogger noted. He believes that the Joy-Con 2 are capable of withstanding everyday use.

«The Nintendo Switch 2 performed the durability test much better than I expected,» JerryRigEverything concluded.

Previously, Nintendo announced the repair costs for the console. Prices range from $50 for minor issues to $190 for serious motherboard problems, with the console priced at $450. The repair estimates already include tax.
