iOS 19 Set to Revolutionize eSIM Transfers: Seamless Switch from iPhone to Android on the Horizon

As we approach WWDC 2025, speculation regarding anticipated announcements is intensifying. A recent report indicates that iOS 19, the forthcoming operating system (OS) upgrade for the iPhone, is expected to introduce a function that facilitates a swifter transfer of eSIMs from an iPhone to an Android device. This new capability was reportedly uncovered by examining the code within one of the applications found in the Android 16 QPR1 Beta 1 update, released last week.

eSIM Migration from iPhone to Android

This newly identified feature was located in Google’s SIM Manager app following the Android 16 QPR1 Beta 1 update, as stated by Android Authority. Code snippets hint that the anticipated iOS 19 update from Apple might allow users to wirelessly transfer eSIMs to Android devices. A fresh page titled Transfer to Android is expected to be incorporated under Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone, resembling Apple’s eSIM Quick Transfer feature that permits the transfer of eSIMs between iPhones.

The function will reportedly create a QR code that may need to be scanned by the Android phone. It is said to necessitate the input of a “session ID” and a passcode on the Android device. However, it is still uncertain whether both of these will be generated by the iPhone.

One of the code strings, "Still can't connect wirelessly?", implies that the transfer process can only occur if both devices are connected wirelessly. Should this not be the case, it might be because the iPhone does not operate on the latest iOS 19 version.

Although transferring an eSIM from an iPhone to an Android smartphone is still possible, it is a complicated task that usually requires contacting the carrier or service provider to obtain an activation QR code to initiate the transfer. In contrast, performing this process between two iPhone models or two Android phones is considerably more straightforward.

If this capability is indeed included in iOS 19, it is likely that Apple will showcase it at the upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2025, taking place next month. The company is anticipated to reveal its new OS versions, including iOS 19, along with all the new features and modifications during the keynote address.
