The HP OmniBook Ultra Flip 14, upon its release, was among the earliest laptops to feature the latest Intel Core Ultra 7 series 2 processors. This revamped chipset promises enhanced efficiency compared to its predecessor, a key consideration for many users seeking a sleek ultrabook. Additionally, the OmniBook Ultra Flip 14 functions as a tablet, equipped with a 360-degree hinge and a touch-enabled display.

HP’s versatile model is one of the few 2-in-1 devices on the market that utilize the new Intel Core Ultra series 2 chipsets. However, it comes at a premium, with the base model priced at Rs. 1,81,999. The unit we reviewed, which incorporates the Intel Core Ultra 7 258V chipset, is priced at Rs. 1,89,999. At first look, the OmniBook Ultra Flip 14 doesn’t appear particularly distinctive. It features a slim aluminum chassis with a matte finish that tends to attract fingerprints and smudges.

However, closer inspection reveals that the rear edges are angled and accommodate the USB Type-C ports. Notably, the laptop lacks USB Type-A ports. There is a third USB Type-C port located on the right side, along with a 3.5mm audio jack.

It’s worth mentioning that charging the laptop can only be done through the Type-C ports on the right. Additionally, connecting bulky devices to the angled USB Type-C ports may be problematic due to the display’s position.

The 360-degree hinge proved to be robust during our evaluation and functioned smoothly.

The OmniBook Ultra Flip 14 sports a metallic HP logo on its lid, the OmniBook brand name near the right hinge, and a Polystudio engraving on the left. The bottom features a sizeable intake mesh and rubber feet. Weighing in at 1.34kg and measuring just 14.9 mm in thickness, it remains lightweight and portable.

The Ultra Flip 14, as indicated by its name, is equipped with a 14-inch OLED display boasting a 2.8K resolution and multitouch capability, along with a 120Hz refresh rate. Furthermore, it is safeguarded by Corning Gorilla Glass 5 and provides HDR support. HP asserts that the display delivers a 0.2ms response time and can achieve up to 500 nits brightness in HDR settings.

The OLED screen is exceptional for media consumption, particularly HDR content, providing deep blacks and vibrant colors. Although the display shines brightly indoors, using it outdoors is less advisable due to its glossy finish.

The touch functionality is remarkable, making it easy to operate as a tablet. However, I found tent mode to be more comfortable, as using it as a tablet can quickly become unwieldy due to its weight. The screen is stylus compatible, and the HP Rechargeable MPP 2.0 Tilt Pen is included in the package.

The keyboard provides an enjoyable typing experience. The function row has a lighter grey tone compared to the rest of the keyboard, while the Power button is subtly blue with a built-in fingerprint scanner. The keys are well-spaced, with adequate backlighting and satisfactory travel. However, I would have preferred slightly larger arrow keys.

HP has included a sizable touchpad that functions effectively and supports multitouch gestures, with pleasant haptic feedback—albeit potentially a little too robust at times.

While the speakers may not have the strongest audio output, they are sufficient for indoor listening. The quad bottom-firing speakers provide clear sound and decent volume, though low-end frequencies may be lacking. These are powered by Poly Studio.

Equipped with a 9-megapixel IR webcam featuring a physical shutter, the camera delivers good quality with enough detail and generally accurate colors in well-lit conditions. It outperforms many typical laptop webcams, though its low-light capabilities could be improved.

This being a Copilot+ PC, it comes with some AI functionalities, although Microsoft’s prominent Recall feature was noticeably absent. Running Windows 11 Home, the laptop includes various HP applications such as Poly Camera Pro, AI Companion, HP Smart, McAfee LiveSafe, and HP Omen.

While many of the mentioned applications may not be particularly advantageous, the AI Companion app can assist with PDF searches if that is a common task for you. The laptop is powered by a robust Intel NPU, yet it lacks sufficient AI features to fully showcase its capabilities.

The Copilot chatbot is available, along with several AI tools within Paint that can be beneficial. The Poly Camera Pro app is useful for video calls or streaming, offering features like Auto Framing, backgrounds, watermarks, Spotlight, and various camera filters. Windows Studio Effects can also enhance the video calling experience.

The review unit we received was equipped with the Intel Core Ultra 7 258V chipset, 32GB of RAM, 1TB SSD storage, and an Intel Arc 140V integrated GPU. The laptop performed admirably for everyday tasks, including using Chrome with multiple open tabs, video streaming on platforms like YouTube or Netflix, running applications like Slack, and typing extensively.

The integrated GPU is also competent enough to handle games like Forza Horizon 4, achieving around 40-50fps on the laptop. I encountered no significant issues or lags during my usage, and the cooling system efficiently managed heat during intensive tasks such as gaming and video editing.

The battery life of the OmniBook Ultra Flip 14 was impressive. I consistently achieved 9-10 hours of usage (enough for a full workday) with approximately 30 percent battery remaining. The latest Intel Core Ultra series 2 chipsets are certainly more power-efficient without compromising performance.

In conclusion, the HP OmniBook Ultra Flip 14 is undoubtedly positioned at a higher price point, which makes me hesitant to recommend it broadly. Nevertheless, if budget is not a concern—especially with an anticipated price reduction—this 2-in-1 laptop from HP represents a worthwhile investment.

Featuring an excellent OLED display, solid performance particularly in gaming, outstanding battery life, and portability, the OmniBook Ultra Flip 14 is a commendable option. While it lacks some standard features such as a USB Type-A port, it is not a deal-breaker. For creators seeking a high-quality 2-in-1 with impressive screen quality and battery longevity, this laptop is an excellent selection.
