Hideo Kojimas Team Collaborated with Eidos-Montréal on OD Before Development Hurdles Arise

According to a report from Insider Gaming, Eidos-Montréal was involved in assisting Kojima Productions in the development of an experimental horror game known internally by the codename P21 for about a year. The collaboration came to an end when Hideo Kojima’s studio requested the participating staff to relocate to Japan. After the team declined this request, they ceased their involvement in the project, which at the time had approximately twenty people working on it.

It’s worth noting that the project has faced challenges since its inception. In November 2022, a two-minute gameplay segment leaked online, shared by an insider known as The Snitch. In the footage, fans spotted Margaret Qualley portraying Mama from  Death Stranding and heard the working title Overdose for the first time. A year later, during The Game Awards, Hideo Kojima, along with director Jordan Peele, revealed the final title—OD—and cautioned that the game would evoke strong, polarizing reactions. In 2025, a new teaser titled Knock was released.

The development has encountered further obstacles. The release has been postponed to 2026 due to an extended SAG-AFTRA strike affecting the video game industry. Additionally, on November 23, 2025, actor Udo Kier passed away, a key cast member for the project. Kojima described his death as a significant loss and reminisced about how the actor had eagerly awaited his return to the set until the very end.

As for when OD will be released, that remains uncertain. The project is being published by Xbox Game Studios.
