Elon Musk’s AI encyclopedia suspected of harboring far-right views

Musk’s AI startup xAI has launched Grokipedia, an AI-driven online encyclopedia that claims to be «truth-oriented.»

«The aim of the project is to create an open-source code containing all of humanity’s knowledge. Subsequently, copies, preserved in stable oxide, will be placed in orbit, on the Moon, and on Mars to safeguard them for future generations,» Musk stated.

The homepage features a prominent search bar, and the articles are formatted similarly to Wikipedia, with headings, subheadings, and source links.

«We aren’t perfect, but we will strive towards this goal,» added the entrepreneur.

Musk presents Grokipedia as a significant improvement over Wikipedia; however, some entries replicate content from the latter. At the end of several articles, it states:

«The content is adapted from Wikipedia and licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 License.»

This note appears on pages describing the MacBook Air, PlayStation 5, and Lincoln Mark VIII, with the articles nearly identical to their Wikipedia counterparts—word for word, line by line.

Not all of Grokipedia’s articles are copied from Wikipedia; some differ significantly.

On Grokipedia, the AI Grok takes a leading role, determining and moderating the content on the platform. In contrast, Wikipedia relies on a community of volunteer editors and automated tools.

Musk explained that users can add, modify, or suggest the deletion of articles, but the final decision will rest with the AI.

Grokipedia mentions that it has conducted fact-checking for its articles.

Users have begun to notice varying approaches in article creation. For instance, the coverage of George Floyd—a Black man who died during an arrest in Florida—on Grokipedia emphasizes his criminal record in the opening paragraph.

In contrast, Wikipedia immediately highlights that he was killed by a «white» police officer.

Musk has previously criticized Wikipedia for its left-leaning bias and propaganda. Grokipedia emphasizes the site’s criticism of factual accuracy and its liberal slant in presenting political figures.

Conversely, Grokipedia is portrayed as a platform that could lean towards Musk’s «far-right» views.

«NBC News pointed out that Grokipedia’s article about Musk omits a hand gesture he made in January 2025, which many perceived as a Nazi salute, whereas this is referenced in the Wikipedia article,» the resource’s page states.

Another example of differing perspectives is the stance on climate change. Wikipedia asserts:

«There is almost unanimous scientific consensus that Earth’s climate is warming due to human activities. No authoritative scientific organization, national or international, disputes this view.»

On Grokipedia, the interpretation reads:

«Critics argue that claims of almost unanimous scientific consensus regarding anthropogenic causes of recent climate change exaggerate the level of agreement due to selective categorization in scientific reviews.»

The text highlights that media outlets and organizations like Greenpeace «contribute to heightened public anxiety» and engage in «coordinated attempts to present the issue as an existential threat, impacting public discourse and policy without always relying on proportionate empirical data.»

In June, Musk claimed that xAI would rewrite «all human knowledge» to train a new version of the chatbot Grok. He believes that «too much garbage is present in any base model trained on uncorrected data.»

This decision drew criticism, with AI specialist Gary Marcus likening the plan to a dystopia.

Later, users noticed that Grok relies on Musk’s posts on X for information, including regarding the Israel-Palestine conflict, abortion, and immigration legislation.

These observations suggest the chatbot may have been specifically configured to reflect Musk’s political views in its responses to contentious issues.

In July, Grok found itself in hot water due to controversial statements made post-improvements.
